Latest trends in digital marketing and why should you jump on the bandwagon.

I came to a hypothesis that describes the reasons of the fast change and evolution of digital marketing. It may be right or wrong, is the reader who will decide. I say fast change because not long ago society was amazed on the invention of the e-mail as the new type of communication. Postcards and letters got outdated, and just few years later Twitter, Skype and Facebook appeared, revolutionizing even more our communication channels. And the reason I believethose changes appeared, lies in Adam Smith’s theory of supply and demand. People were demanding faster communications softwares with all kinds of widgets and so Facebook appeared with its games, walls, videos etc… What I am saying is that when there is a demand in the market is just a matter of time for a producer to supply it.

The individuals that are shaping our digital world are called digital natives or generation Y. This new generation of consumers are pushing the boundaries for digital marketing. The video  demonstrates one clear example of the differences of this generation compared with generation X (digital immigrants). As well I invite you guys to watch a colleague’s video that talks about the same topic: http://dm-clickthrough.blogspot.com/2011/03/bonus-track.html

After doing some research the following are the most important digital marketing trends (to my opinion). For more information please check: Marketing Vox and Stuart Parkinson web pages.

1.     The year that people get to grips with marketing on social networks.

2.    The year that brands begin to realise it's about lighting lots of fires in different places.

3.    The year it becomes less about technology showcases and more about ideas.

4.    Someone will figure out how to do something interesting with Google Wave.

5.    Transparency gets even more radical.

6.    Crowdsourcing.

7.    The internet will bleed into reality.

8.    The Cloud Helps Open-Source Software Make Proper Money.

9.    Mobile Commerce -  The Promise That Has Never Delivered, Yet.

10. . More Flash, Not Less.

This is my last post regarding this subject. I hope you guys enjoy and learn about digital marketing. I leave you with a broad question, how you see the world in the future? May be internet will became reality; or the other way we will become tired of it and leave it away; there is not a wrong answer to this question.

  1. I think the internet will become reality :P... or at least a separate life. It seems to be the way things are going, because you can have a number of different profiles online, as well as your real life one. Some people are completely different on things like facebook than in real life, and you even have games and things which allow you to set up an entire new 'online' persona of yourself. It's very interesting in my opinion!
